S.O.W. Tomorrow!

What do you think of this name: S.O.W. (Surge Offering Worship)?

Like sowing seeds of worship or um, Sow Cool (maybe not sow cool).  I dunno, I like the ring of it!  So that's what we're going to call our worship gathering tomorrow. We can discuss alternative names there! Those of you who are interested in offering your talents to help lead your peers into worship, whether it be your voice or your instrument, should come tomorrow and hang out with me, Jered and Mollie!

We're planning on hanging out from 12:30 to 1:30 after second service at the youth room (Boberg).  We'll talk about the kind of commitment it will take to take part this coming school year.

I led student worship teams for 10 years at my old church and this is something that I'm totally excited to jump into and have running by Fall.  I would love for us all to be able to worship God more freely and intently as a group as well as have a lot of fun when we sing our songs at Surge and Surge Challenge.  I think a student team is really going to help accomplish that goal!

Tyson's a Missionary!

Tyson is headed to Nicaragua in about a week and we are so proud of him!  We can't wait to hear all the things that God will do in and through him.  As a youth group, I think we should make a point to be praying for Tyson as he prepares this week and when he's on his trip.

Let's pray for strength during the mission trip.  It can be a grind on your body, even one as buff as Tyson's.

Pray for unity for the team.  There are really good people on trip but Satan loves to cause disunity when people are tired and away from home!

Pray for financial support.  Tyson has been raising money and we can help him by praying that God will help bring in the funds.  As a group, our Tithes during Surge Challenge this month will be going to help Tyson's trip.

Pray for Amazing!  Yes, amazing.  Pray that something amazing happens each and every day that Tyson and the team won't be able to do anything but thank God.  Let's pray for physical and emotional healing.  Let's pray for people to come to know Jesus as their Savior.  Let's pray for God's name to be glorified through this team!

Praying for Surge

Hey students,

I just wanted to let you know that all the prayer requests you gave to us 2 weeks ago were taken by Surge staff this week and you were prayed for!  We loved reading through the prayer requests and praises, seeing your love for your family and friends.  We also were humbled by the desire expressed by many of you to live more for Jesus.

God listens and knows you heart.  Lift your requests to Him and He will be faithful to answer in His time!

Heroic Interns

Captain Amazing, i.e. Mike Crosswhite and Captain Awesome, i.e. Josh Campbell.... you guys are superheros in my book.  Thanks for running our Surge program last Tuesday night.  It's such a good feeling to know I can leave for vaca and not have to worry about the quality of the ministry!

Thanks also to our volunteer-ifics,  Michael and Mollie for being there Tuesday too.

To those of you who mistakenly thought Surge was cancelled due to the fact that everybody in my personal mail box got a Out Of Office reply saying I was on vaca I have to offer a huge apology!

here it is:

APOLOGY

However, I heard great things about the night and that there's a fantastic new game that will be played again soon at Surge.

See you this Sunday at Surge and remember that this next Tuesday is a house party at the Jones', 6:45-9PM!

VBS Homies

Thanks to all the Surge students who helped out in VBS.  I'm talking about love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Oh yeah.  Picture me doing that to the Macarena and you'll get an idea of the cool songs we learned.

I really had a great time getting games together for those little whipper-snappers.  And to all you 5th grade boys who pig-piled on me... I'll get you at Surge next year!

It was so cool to see the students in our group step up and serve the little dudes and dudets.  You were definitely Making Waves at VBS.

I want to do a shout out to all the game crew who helped me!  I couldn't have done it without your leadership and energy!

Ashlee, Janelle, Morgan, David, Adam, Jadi, Zach - you guys were awesome the whole week!  Thanks to Drew and Mollie and Michael and Cody for providing some back up throughout the week.

I think we learned that little kids will scream and run any time you tell them to.  That and the fact that a hug and a smile and a word of encouragement go a long way for them... and us!

I know there were a ton of you who helped out in VBS who weren't with me doing games. All of you deserve a standing ovation!

I would love to hear your thoughts on VBS and what you did in the comments below.

What an awesome week!

An Amazing Week @ VBS!

Hey Guys!

1st of all I want to thank all of you who generously volunteered 2 help out @ VBS, you did a great job and the kids absolutely loved you! The week was a great success and it was a pleasure for me to serve alongside each of you! I want to take the opportunity to encourage you with a couple of incredible experiences God blessed me with during the week.

The first was on Monday morning when I was getting ready for VBS...I suddenly felt this really deep/heavy presence descend on me (which was the presence of God).  My first instinct was to raise my hand but immediately after that it dropped me to my knees.  It was almost like I was in a trance and I began praying and praising God.  It was nothing specific but just praising him for who he is and how awesome and mighty he is.  I wasn't even thinking but the words were just flowing out of my mouth.  I felt so close to God, just like he was sitting beside me holding my hand...it was amazing!  I would rate this in the top 5 most powerful and impactful prayer times I have ever had!  I have only experienced this type of prayer on rare occasions but every time it has left me breathless and crying tears of joy :) I want to encourage us all to be diligent about praying regularly and hopefully we all will be blessed with such intimate experiences with God!

The second thing that happened was on Thursday when I had the honor of leading one of the kids in my group to Christ!  His name is Sam and he was very excited to ask Jesus to guide and impact his life!  This was one of the most joyful experiences I have had in recent months and it really encouraged me to keep pursuing the lost!  I will be praying for Sam and I would ask that you also add him to your prayer list :)  I beg you to continually seek the lost because we never know when the Spirit will utilize us to call someone to himself!  Even in the most unusual times with the most unexpected people, God will show up and work in incredible ways!

Once again, thank you for sacrificing your time and getting up so early in the morning to help out!  I know it was greatly appreciated and we couldn't have done VBS without you!

Dare to Be a Daniel 2

Okay guys, we are changing things up this month because of a special opportunity!  Mr. Jones (Keira's Dad) has invited a bunch of us to come over to his house this Friday afternoon for a Halo party!  We are planning on having it from 2-7pm.   More details will come soon but for now I need to know:

1. if you want to come
2. if you can bring an xbox 360 and if so, how many controllers
3. We have limited spots so I need to know by Thursday!

This event will take the place of our Saturday event.  Almost everybody could not make a canoeing trip this Saturday so we have decided to postpone till August.

This Friday is a drop off or hang out event for Dads.  If you would like to join us for a couple rounds of Halo please do!

We will provide pizza and soda.

Thanks guys!
